We're told to ignore our emotions and not act on irrational impulse when it comes to big purchases – patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait, as they say.
But an important new study from Northeastern University in the US has found that channelling the right feelings can actually help us endure the wait.
Specifically, acknowledging the positive feelings of gratitude was found to make us more patient.
