We’re usually told to think of something nice when faced with an uncomfortable injection at the GP’s for example, or a painful trip to the dentist.

However, recent research has shown that conjuring up our feelings for the one we love by simply looking at an image of them can activate our brain’s reward centres, significantly reducing pain by as much as 40 per cent in situations where moderate pain is experienced.

So next time, look at that photo in your wallet and see if it works…
