Marianne Williamson: Love, work and miracles

โ€˜Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, โ€œWho am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?โ€ Actually, who are you not to be?โ€™ Marianne Williamson, Return To Love

I am a big fan of Marianne Williamson and am delighted she will be coming to London this winter. I loved her book Return To Love and I went to a talk she gave in London a few years ago when she wryly spoke about the angry young woman she used to be when she embarked on her marches for peace in the 1960s. She talked about making the shift from โ€˜fighting to peaceโ€™ to โ€˜being peaceโ€™ and she quoted Gandhi: โ€˜Be the change you want to see in the world.โ€™ โ€˜When we stop fighting for peace out there and start creating peace โ€œin hereโ€, miracles happen,โ€™ she encouraged us.

It was that talk that set me off on my own journey to be the change I wanted to see. Not always easy but her words often come back to me when Iโ€™m dealing with tricky situations at home or at work.

Marianne is certainly walking her talk. In 2014, she stood as a candidate in the elections for the US Congress.
