Do you want to boost your self-control?

A study found that performing rituals, even ones that seem meaningless, help us feel more disciplined. People hoping to improve their health were given a random ritual to do before meals. Compared to those without a ritual, they made healthier choices.

And, when they performed a ritual before making an ethics-based decision (choosing between going to a party or helping a charity), ritualists preferred to do good.
