Call Your Self Love Police with the power of self empathy

What if learning to understand, appreciate and even love all the parts of yourself which make you feel whole could be the path to your freedom and peace within? How would this enhance your life?

Continuing on the Path to Mental Fitness and Self-Love, in my mindful poetic stories podcast episode 6, “Call The Self Love Police”, I share my thoughts on the intelligences within the human experience and share how redefining the word intelligence helped me grow, and with it came a deeper awareness and understanding which helped me cultivate my self compassion and empathy.

In a world increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence and traditional measures of intellect, is it time to broaden our understanding of what it means to be intelligent?

Beyond the well-known IQ (Intelligence Quotient), there exists a spectrum of intelligences that play crucial roles in our personal growth, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

I believe all of them can help us understand and get to know ourselves better.

While IQ measures our ability to reason and solve logical problems, it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Social Intelligence (SQ), Creative Intelligence (CQ), and Spiritual Intelligence all contribute to our human experience in unique and valuable ways.

Emotional Intelligence allows us to perceive, interpret, and manage our emotions effectively.
Social Intelligence helps us navigate complex social situations and build meaningful relationships.
Creative Intelligence fuels our ability to think outside the box and generate innovative solutions.
Spiritual Intelligence connects us to our inner selves, the universe and the world around us on a deeper level.

Developing all of these within ourselves, I believe, can even help us on the path to growing in higher consciousness.

Among these various forms of intelligence, Positive Intelligence (PQ) has emerged as a powerful framework for enhancing mental fitness. Founded by Shirzad Chamine, PQ measures the strength of our positive mental muscles versus our negative ones. It encompasses self-awareness, resilience, empathy, and a positive mindset; qualities that are essential for thriving in today’s challenging world.

At the heart of PQ are two opposing forces: Saboteurs and the Sage.

Saboteurs represent our inner critics and self-destructive thought patterns which can obstruct our ability to thrive and be happy, as they lead to diminished feelings of self-worth and self-value.

Meanwhile, the Sage embodies our true essence, which is curious, wise, intuitive, creative, and compassionate, with a desire for openness and understanding.

By recognising and managing our Saboteurs while nurturing our Sage, we can dramatically improve our mental fitness and overall quality of life.

I have been on a personal growth and development path for many years, learning to understand, know and love myself unconditionally.

However, beginning my coaching journey in 2018 certainly enhanced that process, and PQ Mental Fitness coaching was the “cherry” on my coaching cake for building on the self-empathy and self-care and understanding self.

Now as a PQ self-love coach, it brings me great joy facilitating this self-love journey for others who are ready to grow in unconditional love for self and then emanate that love outwards.

As artificial intelligence continues to advance, it’s crucial to remember the irreplaceable value of human connection. A groundbreaking 80-year study on happiness, documented in the book “The Good Life,” reveals that the strength of our relationships, our human connection, is the single most important factor in determining our life satisfaction, happiness and longevity.

By developing our emotional and positive intelligence, we can enhance our ability to form and maintain these vital connections. This holistic approach to intelligence not only improves our relationships with others but also deepens our relationship with ourselves.

So, the big question is: would you sabotage someone you truly love? The answer I get is always ‘no’. Therefore, I believe you would not self-sabotage or neglect yourself, if you truly loved yourself unconditionally.

However, we are not taught to love ourselves, especially as women. In fact, we are told we “should” be the carers of others and that self love is selfish (and that’s what I, myself, was also led to believe).

Therefore, it is our responsiblity to cultivate self-love and self-empathy. As we become more aware of our thoughts and emotions, we can learn to treat ourselves with the same compassion and understanding that we extend to others in our life.

As the Persian poet Rumi wisely said, “Why are you knocking at every other door? Go, knock at the door of your own heart.”

The phrase “Call the Self Love Police” is based on a story of a client I was working with. The idea of having an internal Self Love Police so that when you are hijacked by those internal negative loops of self sabotaging thoughts, inner judgemental voices and outdated limiting beliefs, you can remind yourself to Call your Self Love police.

This serves as a fun playful reminder that there is always the option to shift to a more life-enhancing positive reinforcement loop which you know you can learn and grow from.

Then, step by step, you can choose to learn to take this path more in your life, growing in love for yourself unconditionally from the miracle of your being.

From my own experience embracing a positive and loving growth mindset, appreciating and respecting all aspects of self, including our intelligence (logical, emotional, social, and creative), we can build a solid foundation of emotional regulation and resilience, which leads to better mental fitness. This, in turn, empowers us to live more fulfilling lives.

In a world that often prioritises external achievements and artificial capabilities, let’s not forget to nurture what makes us uniquely human, and by doing so, we can, not only survive, but thrive in the face of life’s challenges, creating a life of purpose, connection, and genuine happiness.
