Your tips for New Year success

We asked you on Facebook and Twitter what your top tips were for keeping the motivation going when you’re undertaking a challenging New Year’s Resolution. Here are our favourites: Vikki on Facebook: Mindset is everything. Don't let one small thing derail your goals and make small changes to get big results. @MagasinxStitch on Twitter: A friend suggested you should just tackle one thing at a time. Makes sense to me! Marenid on Facebook: I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Live every day as if it was your last, and take everything (good and bad) as a lesson. Kim on Facebook: Small steps all go to make a long journey. Kelly Yvonne on Facebook: Keep your goals to what you can achieve and not what you want from other people. Believe in yourself! Marlo on Facebook: Begin with the end in mind & be proud of each step you take towards reaching your goal. Don't be hard on yourself and realise that there are going to be times where you will take a step forward and two backwards. Feyona on Facebook: Keep it real. No point in creating a magic wand wish list. Make it a whole year plan. @janeitejane on Twitter: I don't make New Year's Resolutions. They are pointless and set people up for failure. Just like January 1st dieting!! Elaine on Facebook: Write down what your intentions are and pin them up around the house or in the room where its relevant, and pull them down when down or cross off the steps taken! Rachel on Facebook: Leave the things that hinder you as you leave 2013 so you can really move forward into 2014. Julia on Facebook: Choose a change that you really believe in. Recognise and celebrate the benefits as they develop. Be kind to yourself during trying times; not all paths worth following will be thorn free, snags happen! Diana on Facebook: If you know what you truly want (a big/small change): make a backwards plan with steps and then divide those in to smaller steps until you know exactly what you need to do to get there. It also makes it more fun, because you see immediate results with each step. And don't forget to enjoy the ride. Kimberley on Facebook: Don't look back, just keeping moving forward. Kate on Facebook: Find something you enjoy that works for you. For example if you're wanting to get healthy and lose weight and you're an outdoorsy type, you are far more likely to stick to exercise if you go for a good long walk in the country side than joining a gym. Rather than emulating others, find something you know you will find pleasurable. You are far more likely to stick to it. Hazel on Facebook: ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results’ – Albert Einstein #makeachange Francesca on Facebook: Write a list of how you feel now and a list of how you will feel after making the change. Look at the list every time you are feeling low in motivation! For more tips, stories and advice on making your New Year great, read the rest of our New Year, new beginning series, click here.
